SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN
Oh! You better watch out,
You better not cry,
You better not pout,
I’m telling you why:
Santa Claus is coming to town!
He’s making a list,
He’s checking it twice,
He’s gonna find out
who’s naughty or nice.
Santa Claus is coming to town!
He sees you when you’re sleeping,
He knows when you’re awake.
He knows when you’ve been bad or good,
So be good for goodness sake!
So…You better watch out,
You better not cry
You better not pout,
I’m telling you why.
Santa Claus is coming to town.
Little tin horns,
Little toy drums.
Rudy-toot-toot
and rummy tum tums.
Santa Claus is coming to town.
Little toy dolls
that cuddle and coo,
Elephants, boats
and Kiddie cars too.
Santa Claus is coming to town.
The kids in Girl and Boy Land
will have a jubilee.
They’re gonna build a toyland town
all around the Christmas tree.
Oh….You better watch out,
You better not cry.
You better not pout,
I’m telling you why.
Santa Claus is comin’
Santa Claus is comin’
Santa Claus is comin’
To town.
Listen on You Tube to the Boss sing this song. Find: Christmas Music: “Santa Claus Is Coming”, Bruce Springsteen(4:17). For a milder version listen to: Santa Claus Is Coming To Town~ Perry Como – Christmas(2:42).
My mother, bless her soul, would use this song at Christmas to make me walk the straight and narrow path. “You better watch out” or
He sees you when you’re sleeping,
He knows when you’re awake.
He knows when you’ve been bad or good,
So be good for goodness sake!
I needed this song. When I was selfish and just out for number one, my mother played this trump card. Bless her heart!
In this song there’s a hint of the Gospel. There’s a Great Day coming.
Rev. 19:7 “Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride(the church) has made herself ready.”
God is making a list of names, too.
Rev. 20:15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
You better watch out - God, Almighty, is coming to town.
Now the carol that has the most melodic refrain.
Angels we have heard on high,
Singing sweetly through the night,
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their brave delight.
Gloria in excelsis Deo.
Gloria in excelsis Deo.
Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why these songs of happy cheer?
What great brightness did you see?
What glad tiding did you hear? Refrain
Come to Bethlehem and see
Him whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee
Christ, the Lord, the new-born King. Refrain
See him in a manger laid
Whom the angels praise above;
Mary, Joseph, lend your aid,
While we raise our hearts in love. Refrain
Angels and shepherds why these songs of happy cheer? They couldn’t contain their excitement. That was my problem at Christmas time. I was bouncing off the walls from Thanksgiving through Christmas break.
We should celebrate by speaking Latin.
Gloria in Excelsis Deo! (Latin for “Glory to God in the highest”)
What excites you? What are you celebrating? Can’t you hear “The mountains echo their brave delight”. Don’t let the rocks cry out, instead of you. The last line “…we raise our hearts in love” ought to manifest itself.
Do you love the Babe in the manger? Does your heart leap at Christmas time? Last night I watched on You Tube the Candlelight Procession at EPCOT. Gary Sinise, of CSI NY, read the sciptures when we saw it live. The whole program consists of scripture reading followed by a carol. They finish with Handel’s Hallelujah. My heart lept just watching the video.
You better not cry, You better not pout. Celebrate!
I can almost hear the trumpet.

Dad, I think the wisest thing you’ve said in this blog is to celebrate by saying things in Latin. It’s clearly the greatest language ever; everything just sounds more powerful in it.
I’m not a huge fan of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” though…I think it’s got a bit of stalker/creeper in it. The old chubby man knows when I’m sleeping and when I’m awake? Kinda scary…=P
We sang “Angels We Have Heard on High” tonight at the Winter/Elliston Christmas Party, and it was exciting. Probably because we were in at least four different keys…but the words still spoke to me.
Thanks for the insights, Dad, they’re fantastic. Stay strong.

Yeah, I was never much for Stalker Santa though some people like to use the same argument for Stalker God because he really does see everything!
Dad, you should have heard Leland ranting and raving about the correct pronunciation for ‘excelsis.’ He kept yelling “It’s not eggshellsies! It’s ekchelsies!!!” You can definitely tell he’s a music major from his insistence on the correct pronunciation of dead languages.
We sang quite a few songs at the Christmas Party tonight. Well, only the first verse really. Then somebody would try to start the second and voices would die out until there was just general mumbling until the chorus and then everyone jumped back in! Somebody suggested ‘Oh, Christmas Tree’ which was an absolute disaster because the only words anybody knew were the title!
I miss the Candlelight Procession at Epcot. Didn’t you, Leland, and I stay late to watch it last time? Was that the day Leland and I had watched the Beauty and the Beast stage show four times? I can remember standing outside the open-air theater (because we got there too late to get seats) and having the procession line up right behind us. They started to sing as they were walking in and you whispered to me pointing out one particular woman that you said God had gifted with an exceptionally beautiful voice. And you were right.
Speaking of beautiful voices, you missed an great concert this morning at Fellowship. Bill Sims sang a solo – it was fantastic as always. Actually, I don’t think I’ve ever heard him sound bad – whether its ‘Oh, What a Beautiful Morning’ or The Lord’s Prayer at Lauren’s wedding (which by the way, he is required to sing at my wedding!). Anyways, you’ll have to get a DVD of the concert.
Well, I should definitely get some sleep! I’ll stop by tomorrow some time. Keep up the encouraging blogs, Dad!

Danny,
I have developed a delightful habit….I start my day (along with my devotion) by dropping in on your inspirational blog. My, you have become a wise, articulate, and frankly, sometimes, very entertaining man. I also enjoy reading (I feel like I am eavesdropping or reading someone else’s mail) the comments by your young adult children. I don’t really know them since they are grown, but this allows me to peep into their personalities. I know you and Jean are proud of all your kids…..as are we all!
Speaking of kids…our Jim reminded us again at Thanksgiving that you are his spiritual father…yep…it all happened on the steps out at Hi-Life Camp! We are grateful to you for this. There are untold numbers of kids who met Jesus on those steps.
Thank you Danny for your diligence and faithfulness in serving our Lord.
Love and best wishes to you and Jean and your family for a merry Christmas and a bright 2009.
In His love,
Linda Tibbs

Uncle Danny,
I have been busy with finals so I have not been checking the blog regularly… however, today I EXTRA procrastinated and read all of the entries from the last month and a half or so…and now I don’t think I have any tears left. I just experienced a month of your revelations, wisdom, and emotions all in about one hour!
You are an inspiration to me and you have always brought JOY to my heart! My faith is relatively young so your words, attitude, and unwavering faith are such a REAL example to me of what it means to live out your faith and believe even in the storm. It reminds me that the enemy can not take anything from me that I am already willing to give away.
I love that you are not speaking about God’s presence, but that you are speaking FROM God’s presence. Your life is a testimony to the love of Jesus and your thoughts continue to inspire even though they are no longer spoken but typed.
I love you and your family and can’t wait to see you again for Christmas!
your loving niece,
Rossie
